Choosing Words Correctly.
1. Use should have... not should of...
Note: Some speakers with a lack of effort will, incorrectly, say, "should uh."
I should have told the truth.
2. When using the word different in a comparison, use from instead of than.
Use different from... not different than...
...our earthly bodies which die and decay are
different from the bodies we shall have when we come back to life again, for they will never die.
1 Corinthians 15:42.
In other comparisons, in which you don't use different use than (...more than...less than...greater than...ect.)
3. Use angry with... not angry at...
Jesus spoke about sin in thought saying,
"But I tell you that anyone who is
angry with his brother will be subject to judgement." Matthew 5:22.
4. Use try to... not try and...
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
1 Thessalonians 5:15.
5. Use is that... not is because...
One of the reasons for believing in God is that His glory is reflected in the beauty of the Earth and the stars.
6. After state of being verbs (is/was...are/were) use due to... not because of...
The change in my life is due to my belief in Jesus Christ.
7. Without the presence of a state of being verb use because of... not due to...

8. Use must... not have got to...
I must read my Bible to strengthen my walk with Christ.
9. Use who to refer to people.
They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. John 9:13.
Use that
to refer to things.
Then God said: Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea
and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. Genesis 1:26.
10. Compared to.....Compared with.....
Compared to is used when you are highlighting similarities or likening one thing to another.
For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, Psalm 89:6.
"He compared teaching to being a cheerleader."
Likening teaching to cheerleading.
Compared with examines similarities and differences within the same type or category.
We are showing differences as well as similarities between any two objects or ideas. We are contrasting them.
"We compared Christian churches with Catholic churches."
Examining how they are the same or different.
11. Like....As if....
like: a preposition used to compare nouns or pronouns.
....he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6.
as if: a conjunction used to introduce clauses. Eric Liddle, in the movie, "Chariots of Fire," ran as if his life depended on it.
12. Convince....Persuade
convince: to be secure about a decision or principle.
Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. Acts 28:24.
persuade: to induce someone to do something or embrace an idea.
Then Agrippa said to Paul, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" Acts 26:28.
